65 Hours

Sixty five hours ago I decided to make a blanket. I went Christmas shopping Monday night, bought something and that same night I changed my mind and wanted to give Ryan something else, something better, something...sentimental. I texted Malia and asked if it were possible to make a blanket in 8 days. She laughed. Go ahead you can laugh too, I don't care anymore. I hate sewing, hate it. I pay people to make me things. The most sewing I ever do is a quilt square for the family quilts we make for those getting married, and that's just one square. I spent an entire week cutting out 585 squares. I cut myself with the rotary cutter, I ran out of flannel three times and ran out of jeans twice. Finally, I finished cutting and thought the longest and hardest part was over. I was very wrong. Assembling the blanket took 2 hours itself. After sewing for 35 hours straight only breaking for the bathroom and little snacks, I finished the blanket, or again so I thought. I was reminded that I then needed to cut each square so that it could fray. I took the blanket home and spent 3 1/2 hours cutting...again. I think I developed carpal tunnel and 6 blisters on my fingers. All for what? Well, I just REALLY wanted to make a blanket and give him something good. It was worth it, it will be worth it. So, here's a few pictures of the project that has consumed my life for the past week. I had to make a lot of excuses why he couldn't go in my room, why I cut my finger, why I was up so late all the time, and why I couldn't hang out. He will understand all of that. I think I have done my fair share of sewing for a couple hundred years :-)
P.S. I have been enjoying it as much as I can before I give it to him.
Merry Christmas Ryan
